With proper care, your teeth can last for a lifetime. Unfortunately, things like teeth grinding, tooth decay, and gum disease can cause havoc on your smile. Preventing these types of problems is one of the reasons most dentists recommend a routine cleaning and exam once every six months.

Careful with Hard Foods: Biting into bone can fracture your teeth. Granted, people don’t typically bite into bone, but remember to be careful when you bite into ribs or chicken wings. Also, be weary of foods such as pretzels and baguettes can fracture your pearly whites.
Beware Popcorn: Popcorn itself is relatively safe. Unfortunately, people sometimes eat it handfuls at a time, letting un-popped kernels sneak into your mouth. This can lead to biting too forcefully on something hard and cracking a tooth.
Watch Out for Candy: Everyone knows that sugar can have a bad effect on your teeth, but biting into candy can be worse. While frozen candy or candy with nougats can cause problems, biting into hard candy is even worse. These candies are simply not intended to be chomped on. Please, just suck on hard candy.
